Frequently asked questions about dental hygiene & tooth problems

How do I take care of the teeth?

Brushing and Flossing. It keeps the teeth and gums healthy.

How to brush?

Brush twice daily with a soft bristled brush and fluoride tooth paste.

Hold the brush at 45 degree angle at the gumline and do circular motion. Continue to do on all the surfaces on the inside and outside. The chewing surface should be cleaned in a horizontal scrubbing manner.

Do not forget to brush your tongue

How to floss?

Food particles and plaque between the teeth can be cleaned by flossing.

Take required length of floss and wrap around on your index finger. Slowly insert it in between the teeth without hurting the gums (happens due to forceful insertion). Move the floss up and down and continue on all the teeth.

Why 6 months check-up is advised?

Asymptomatic teeth leisions can be detected through regular check-up.

Why root canal treatment?

When the cavity reaches the pulp (root), the tooth shows the signs and symptoms of irreversible pulpitis. Such tooth can be saved by doing a root canal treatment.

If not treated in time, the tooth will break into pieces and need to be extracted.

Why implant is better than bridge?

Bridging is done by carefully shaping the adjacent support giving teeth and making a measurement for the lab purpose to fabricate the bridge.

Unlike bridging, implants doesn't require support. Here, we replace the lost tooth with no harm to the adjacent teeth. It helps to retain the bone on the extraction site from recession. It functions very much like a normal tooth.

Why should I replace missing teeth?

When tooth is missing, the adjacent and opposite teeth moves around the spaces in an unpredictable manner creating gaps between the teeth. Eventually the missing tooth space gets closed making it impossible to replace. This inturn leads to improper biting habits, which can lead to tempero-mandibular joint pain.
